The Casino Companies List

Here’s the list of 11 casino companies:

1- Las Vegas Sands

The first casino I ever visited was the Sands in Las Vegas, but it was the last night they were open. I sure wish I could have seen it when the Rat Pack was still performing there.

But that was in 1996.

What’s happening with The Las Vegas Sands Corporation now, though?

The Las Vegas Sands Corporation still exists. It’s the biggest casino company on this list, too. The corporate offices are based in Paradise, Nevada, which is just outside of Las Vegas proper.

The company manages various casino resort properties throughout the world. They also manage the clubs and restaurants associated with these casinos.

They also own a museum in Singapore.

Most of their properties are in the United States or Asia. The most famous casinos owned the Las Vegas Sands in the United States are:

  • Palazzo
  • Venetian

Their Asian properties are managed by a wholly-owned subsidiary, Sands China. Most of their Asian casinos are in Macau. Some of their notable Asian casinos include:

  • Four Seasons Hotel Macao
  • Marina Bay Sands
  • Parisian Macao
  • Plaza Macao
  • Sands Cotai Central
  • Sands Macao
  • Venetian Macao

There is no bigger casino company in the world — at least not at the time I write this.

2- MGM Resorts

The only stock I ever lost money on was my stock in MGM, but it’s made a big comeback. MGM Resorts International is the 2nd biggest company on this list.

They manage and own casinos in multiple destinations:

  • Detroit
  • Maryland
  • Mississippi
  • New Jersey
  • Vegas

Some of the notable properties they own include:

  • Bellagio
  • Empire City Casino
  • Mandalay Bay
  • MGM Grand (of course)
  • MGM National Harbor
  • The MGM Springfield
  • Park MGM

MGM Resorts International also owns most of MGM China Holdings Limited. They operate the MGM Macau.

And MGM Resorts International also owns most of MGM Growth Properties, which operates as a real investment trust.

They’ve been in business since 1987 and expanded considerably when they bought the Mirage. They changed their casino and gaming focus to real estate development in the 2000s.

In 2010, the company changed focus again, now trying to expand into a global market.

List

3- Caesar’s Entertainment

I remember when Caesar’s Entertainment was still called Harrah’s Entertainment. And, indeed, you can still find plenty of casinos named Harrah’s.

Caesars Entertainment was founded in Reno but now operates in Paradise, just like Las Vegas Sands. They own and manage over 50 casinos and 7 golf courses.

Caesar’s is a public company, so you can buy stock in it.

This is also one of the oldest companies on the list, having been founded in 1937 (the same year my dad was born in).

Most of the casinos in their group go under one of the following brand names:

  • Bally’s (in Atlantic City and Las Vegas)
  • Caesars
  • Harrah’s
  • HorseShoe

4- Galaxy Entertainment Group

Galaxy Entertainment Group is a publicly-traded company operating casinos in Macau.

The company used to be in the construction material industry, but they bought most of Galaxy Casino SA in 2005. They had a gaming license and changed their business direction.

They own the following properties:

  • The StarWorld Macau
  • CityClub
  • Waldo Casino
  • President Casino
  • Rio Casino
  • Broadway Casino
  • The Galaxy Macau

Since they’re #4 on the list, they’re a good example of how big the gambling market in Macau (and the rest of Asia) is.

5- Wynn Resorts

Wynn Resorts is also based in Paradise, Nevada, and they specialize in luxury casinos and hotels. For years, Steve Wynn owned and managed the company, but Matthew Maddox is now in charge.

In Las Vegas, they operate the Encore and the Wynn.

They also own and operate Encore Boston Harbor.

And they have 3 properties in Macau:

  1. Encore Macau
  2. Wynn Macau
  3. Wynn Palace

6- Melco Resorts and Entertainment

Melco Resorts & Entertainment is another Asian casino operator. Even though the company headquarters are in Hong Kong, the company is traded on the NASDAQ.

The company used to be called Melco Crown but changed its name in 2017.

Among other properties, they own and manage:

  • Altira Macau
  • City of Dreams Macau
  • City of Dreams Manila
  • Studio City Macau.

7- SJM Holdings

Stanley Ho (and his family) own and operate casinos in Macau, too. At one time, SJM Holdings was the only company with licenses to run casinos in Macau, but in 2002, the country started giving more licenses.

SJM Holdings still owns almost half the 30 casinos in Macau.

They also own some casinos in Portugal.

They’ve been in business since 1962.

8- Penn National Gaming

Empire City Casino Slots

Penn National Gaming owns and manages both casinos and racetracks. They’re based in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

They have over 40 different gambling operations, many of them operating under the “Hollywood Casino” moniker.

They also own over 1/3 of Barstool Sports.

Their other big brand is Ameristar.

9- Boyd Gaming

Like many of the companies on this list, Boyd Gaming operates out of Paradise, Nevada. The company is named after its founder, Sam Boyd, and is now managed by Bill Boyd, Sam’s son.

Boyd Gaming owns 15 casinos and makes 75% of its money from the gambling going on in those properties.

They own 3 casinos in Downtown Las Vegas:

  1. California Hotel and Casino
  2. Fremont Hotel and Casino
  3. Main Street Station

They also own 9 other casinos in Vegas, including the Orleans and Sam’s Town.

They have roughly a dozen casinos in other states, and they operated 3 racetracks.

10- Crown Resorts

When researching this post, I was surprised to learn that Crown Resorts was so low on the list. I know people from Australia, and they LOVE to gamble.

They own just 2 properties, though, which is a testament to the size of their casinos:

  1. Crown Melbourne
  2. Crown Perth

Empire Free Slots

They’ve been in business since 2007

11- Genting

The Genting Group operates in Malaysia. They’ve been in business since 1965.

They operate casinos on a lot of continents and in multiple countries, including:

  • Australia
  • Malaysia
  • North America
  • The Phillippines
  • Singapore
  • South America
  • The United Kingdom

Genting has diversified its business interests in recent years. They own companies that include energy and plantations.

More Casino Companies Coming Soon

This page obviously isn’t finished, as I’ll continue to find more gambling businesses to list here. In fact, this could easily become dozens of pages, as a lot of companies work in the industry.

For now, though, I’ve restricted the list to the biggest casino companies as ranked by Statista.

Finally

I’m looking for new ideas to expand this list of casino companies with. If you have some ideas, please leave a comment and let me know.
